Chemistry Celebrates Graduates in Joint Ceremony – May 8, 2026
On May 8, 2026, the Department of Chemistry celebrated forty-seven spring and summer chemistry graduates in a joint recognition ceremony with the Departments of Physics and Mathematics. Dr. Andrew Morehead and Dr. Andrew Sargent served as the Master of Ceremonies and Marshall, respectively. Morehead welcomed the students and their loved ones with this, “Chemistry, Physics, and Math are all considered among the most challenging majors at ECU, and we really appreciate those who share our enthusiasm, who are willing to work hard and often long hours, in delving deeply into a subject many find arcane. I am amazed at their energy, and the variety of activities they manage to fit into their already busy days, whether it is another major, community service, intramural sports, shadowing, internships, or any of the myriad activities I couldn’t manage to fit into my academic career. Our graduates have mastered critical math, reading, writing, research and lab skills that will serve them well regardless of whether they attend medical or dental school, a graduate program, or find work at a local or regional industry.” Each department called their graduates to the stage to receive a graduation gift.
Four graduating chemistry majors were recognized as Outstanding Seniors Award recipients:
- Charlotte Bickley – BS Biology (Concentration in Biology) and Chemistry double major
- Sydney Coll – Dual degree in BS Public Health (Concentration in Prehealth Professions) with Psychology and Composite Natural Science minors and BA Chemistry
- Sy Duke – BS Chemistry with Mathematics minor and Biochemistry (Concentration in Chemistry) double major
- Matthew Hale – BS Biochemistry (Concentration in Chemistry) with Mathematics minor
Best wishes to our recent graduates. We look forward to seeing the impact you’ll make in your careers. Below are some photos capturing this exciting day! Additional photos may also be found on our Department’s Facebook page.
