Chemistry Celebrates Graduates in Joint Ceremony – May 10, 2025

On May 10, 2025, the Department of Chemistry celebrated thirty-five spring and summer chemistry graduates in a joint recognition ceremony with the Departments of Physics and MathematicsDr. Robert Hughes and Dr. Anne Spuches served as the Master of Ceremonies and Marshall, respectively.  Hughes welcomed the students and their loved ones with this, “Undergraduates, you have completed some of the most challenging courses in the collegiate curriculum to obtain your degrees; Graduates, you have completed independent research projects and mentored other students in our labs and classrooms. Some of you have done all of these things, in addition to completing thesis projects, co-authoring papers, attending seminars, presenting at RCAW, fixing broken equipment, breaking equipment that someone else had to fix, giving your advisors and professors gray hairs, and perhaps prematurely developing gray hairs thanks to your advisors and professors.  All of this is to say, we acknowledge the joys and the struggles that you have faced along the way to this accomplishment; we know that it hasn’t always been easy; but you made it! And most of all, we want to say thank you…”.  Each department called their graduates to the stage to receive a graduation gift.

Five graduating chemistry majors were recognized as Outstanding Seniors Award recipients:

  • Naomi Benson – Dual degree in BS Biology (Concentration in Molecular Cell Biology) with a Coastal & Marine Studies Minor and BA Chemistry
  • Joanna Kirkendoll – BS Chemistry
  • Anh Pham – BS Chemistry with biology minor and Biochemistry (Concentration in Chemistry) double major
  • Greyson Sanchez – BS Chemistry and Biochemistry (Concentration in Chemistry) double major
  • Jake Wilson – BS Chemistry

Best wishes to our recent graduates.  We look forward to seeing the impact you’ll make in your careers. Here are some photos capturing this exciting day!
