Chemistry Scholarships

 

A number of scholarships are available for students who are completing a program in the Department of Chemistry.  Interested students should apply each year between September 1st and January 15th (some scholarship windows may vary) through ECU’s on-line scholarship application portal, ECUAward.  Scholarship awards are subject to the availability of funds each year and annual award amounts may vary.  Included below are descriptions of currently available scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Undergraduate Scholarship Opportunities

 

The Dr. Keith & Susan Holmes Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior chemistry major who is a US citizen with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated leadership potential.

 

The Dr. Art Rodriguez & Family Scholarship

Eligibility: This scholarship provides support for both graduate and undergraduate students majoring in fine arts and chemistry. Awards for even numbered academic years will go to fine arts majors while awards for odd numbered academic years will go to chemistry majors. Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

The Joseph N. LeConte Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to a full-time junior or senior chemistry, pre-medical, or pre-dental student. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Must be a US citizen.

 

The Robert C. Lamb Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student that demonstrates outstanding achievement.

 

The Dr. Chia-yu Li Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is open to undergraduate students with a minimum 3.5 GPA and junior or senior standing.

 

The Donald F. Clemens Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding chemistry major on the basis of academic merit and future potential as a student of chemistry.

 

The Tom & Wanda Jones Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship award shall be for one academic year and is renewable through the recipient’s senior year, as long as, the recipient meets the scholarship requirements. The amount and terms of the scholarship shall be determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

 

The Grover & Nell Everett Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding chemistry major on the basis of academic merit and future potential as a student of chemistry.

 

The Franklin D. & Helen B. Kizer Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with outstanding achievement.

 

The Glenn & Fran Ross Chemistry Scholarship

Eligibility: The scholarship is open to Chemistry majors within the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences.

 

The Dr. Gabriel R. Cipau Scholarship

Eligibility: This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated potential as a student of chemistry. Recipient must have at least sophomore standing.

 

The Jean & John Maykuth Scholarship in Chemistry

Eligibility: This scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in chemistry who are from under-represented populations and have demonstrated financial need.

 

The Joe Alexander Biddell Chemistry Fund

This scholarship provides support for students committed to the study of Chemistry.

 

The Phil & Lisa Hodges Chancellor’s Scholarship in Chemistry

The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences scholarship is for chemistry majors. Recipient should be an incoming freshman or transfer student with academic potential, demonstrated financial need and NC residency. Scholarship is renewable provide recipient continues to meet the academic and need requirements.

 

Graduate Scholarship Opportunities

 

The Burroughs Wellcome Fellowship in Organic Chemistry

This Department of Chemistry fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the Chemistry MS program who are doing thesis research in an area of organic chemistry. An original research proposal is required of all applicants. Selection is made by the chemistry Graduate Program Committee and the faculty members of the Organic Chemistry division.  Eligibility:  1. The student must be enrolled full-time in the Chemistry Master’s Program.  2. Have at least a 3.5 GPA in the lecture courses completed during the first year of enrollment in the ECU Graduate Chemistry Program.  3. Demonstrate a commitment to the study of and to a career in organic chemistry.  4. Have selected a research advisor and formed a thesis committee.

 

The Chris & Wanda Wilson Chemistry Scholarship

This Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences scholarship provides support for graduate students majoring in Chemistry.

 

The Dr. Chia-yu Li Graduate Scholarship

This Department of Chemistry scholarship is awarded to a graduate student who exemplifies outstanding achievement in all areas (academics, research, teaching, and departmental citizenship).  Eligibility:  1. The student must have at least a 3.0 GPA in the lecture courses while enrolled in the ECU Graduate Chemistry Program.  2. The student must have successfully completed their thesis and/or dissertation proposal while in the ECU Chemistry Graduate Program.  3. Recommendation from a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry.
